Doctor M'Benga served for two years onboard the U.S.S. Enterprise. He achieved the rank of Lieutenant and acted as Doctor
McCoy's Assistant Medical Officer. In McCoy's absence, sickbay was his to control as he pleased.
M'Benga interned in a Vulcan ward and was held to be an expert in Vulcan biology and often Vulcan customs, a trait that
is explored greatly in both pro-novels and fanfiction.
He is always portrayed as a very caring man, except, of course, in the Mirror Universe, where his sole purpose is to
try to dispose of McCoy so he can control sickbay.
There is some debate into M'Benga's first name, as it was never given in canon, but the most popular suggestions are
Geoffrey, Lucas, and Kessi.
M'Benga appeared in only two episodes of Star Trek.
In Episode #45: A Private Little War, he becomes Spock's primary care provider when McCoy and Kirk beam down to
help the Hill People with their Klingon problems. He is shown not only to be a competent physician and have a good bedside
manner, but he also demonstrates his peculiar sense of humor, when he makes a zing at Chapel regarding her infatuation with
Spock.
In Episode #69: That Which Survives, M'Benga once more takes over sickbay in McCoy's absence, trying to fix all
of the problems caused by the women who keep appearing on the ship attempting to kill people. He has some good dialogue in
this episode. If only he had been in more.
